My name is Cormac, I am originally from Ireland and I am currently living in sunny Valencia, Spain. I am an eager and intrepid traveller, who has lived and taught English in four cities: Dublin, Hong Kong, Santiago de Chile and now Valencia. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and making new connections, and this is one of my favourite aspects of teaching adults. Getting to know and bonding with the person you are teaching is special, and it means that my job is more than that of a teacher, it is of a teacher and a friend if you will! Building a good rapport with students is paramount for me, as enjoying and being interested in the lesson is crucial for students.
One common piece of positive feedback I have received throughout my teaching career is that my adult students enjoy the positive and productive atmosphere of my classes. I am genuinely interested in learning about and getting to know my students, and I believe that this shows in my lessons. Speaking in a new language to someone you do not know very well can be difficult and scary (I know this well from my Spanish lessons!), so having a positive and relaxing environment is very important.
While I will always design my lessons to what students want or specify, in general, I take a communicative approach as much as possible. I will get you speaking English from our first class together but we will also look at vocabulary and grammar. English TeacherIn my current position at Lenguas Vivas, I teach a combination of adults, teenagers and children. The majority of my adults and teens classes are exam preparation classes, specifically for the Cambridge exams.
2019 - 2020
English TeacherIn my role at Smooth Talkers, all of my classes were one-to-one classes with adults. I taught both General English classes and Business English. This role gave me valuable experience of working with people individually and I learned how to develop and tailor classes to specific people.
