About Me

My name is Aaron and I am an English teacher with italki. I have been teaching and tutoring English as a second language off and on for the past six years. I began my journey as a teacher’s assistant and tutor at Cal Poly in Los Angeles, California during my undergrad. Interacting with students from all of the world made me fall in love with the field of teaching English as a second language. One of my passions is traveling and a I have lived in many different countries, including Mexico, Papua New Guinea and Jordan. I also speak Spanish and Levantine Arabic at an advanced level. I live in the United States with my beautiful wife and our cat, Phoebe. I love coffee, music and the outdoors. During my time learning Arabic in Jordan I took a course to receive my CELTA certificate to teach English as a second language. I was taught to practice a highly student centered approach, which means that I as the teacher talk less and you as the student talk more. So I typically focus the majority of my lessons on speaking and listening skills. However, I am also comfortable helping people with grammar, reading and writing as well. My teaching style is laid back and relational. I love helping my students feel comfortable and confident in conversation.

I especially focused on the cultural and historical background of ancient texts. The extensive reading and writing that was required of me as a college student prepared me for teaching English as a second language.
